SPECIES NAME:
Boginthian Leech
COMMON NAME:
Bog Leech
HABITAT:
Thriving in wet, soggy conditions and extremely hardy anywhere else, these creatures can exist in basically any environment. They are extremely common in marshes, bogs and swamps but still common in forests. Bog Leeches are more scattered and less common in grasslands with very few being found in arctic regions and none in the desert.
FIGHTING STYLE:
Slippery and quick, these guys dont stop to ask questions before attacking...quite often ambushing victims before they are even aware of the Leeche's presence. They either latch on with their tail straight away, or bite the victim and hold onto them while they latch on and drink them dry.
ANATOMY:
- The sucker on the Bog Leeche's tail is much like the ordinary Earth leech, having a 3 plated mouth that latches on and secretes anti-blood clotting material to make sure the blood doesnt coagulate around the wound.
- They are blind, which means they use the extresensory 'barbs' along their head and back to detect where they are and where their prey is. They do this via chemicals, and can hone onto a target in pitch black, zero heat and no sound with perfect accurasy so long as the victim is alive.
- A protective coating around the Leech allows for quick movement and for being hard to remove
- When feeding, they often knock out their victims with a fume that comes up from the gut. There's no real toxic potency there, it just stinks.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE SEXES:
1. Males have extra barbs on their faces expecially for detecting females who are ready to mate
2. Males also have bright blue blood, flesh, gums and markings which are used both as a defensive technique and to attract mates
3. Females are much larger than males, and have little to no need for scare tactics or to impress others. They are mean, brutal and a lot more dangerous than males
SIZE:
The average size is that of an Anaconda or less. Males tend to be much smaller, staying around the large constrictors area while females only tend to stray into or above the Anaconda range
WEAKNESSES:
Bog Leeches are easily scared off by fire, however if a larger female is after you, fire may not be enough to keep her away. The most potent method of killing one is ranged attacks as they cannot see arrows nor detect them and are very suceptable to long distance attacks. However, if fighting in close range it is best to use toxic tipping on blades as they scratch easily but not easily brought down by gashes alone.
However, the best way to avoid the Leeches alltogether is to cover yourself with, or keep a vial of a chemical solution which neutralises you 'chemical scent'. This stops their interest in you alltogether and may even allow you to study them at close range or catch one.
Hiya! I'm standing in as a temporary judge since ~PhoebeArtist is away on holiday~
Originality: I am in love with the design of this creature, while most entries have opted for a small, relatively cute creature yours stands out as being a genuinely scary and eerily realistic entry. It reeks of originality, and I like how you included gender differences too!
Effort: There are so many small details on your creature which add to the overall intimidating appearance, and I have also noticed that you've included shading on your entry! Clearly a lot of thought and effort has been put into your bio as well.
Organization: I agree with the other two judges when they say that the dark background makes the creature hard to see, and some labels would have also been nice. But other than this I think that this ref is very well set it on general, it is very clear what this creature looks like.
Overall Score: Overall a unique, well executed idea which stands out in this competition. It would be a crime to give this anything but 10 out of 10!
Creativity: this design/creature is overflowing with creativity, its very amazing from the design to the description. i also like how you add a scientific/logic outlook to these creatures rather than everything happening "just cuz" or "magically"
Originality: very original, nothing but original, its amazing
Effort: so much effort was put into bth the creature and bio.
Organization: good organization, the page itself is somewhat dark making the creature hard to see, which was a it of a dissapointment. the pallet as well is a bit sloppy, as well as hard to view. it would of also been nice if you could of labled it.
Overall Score: the referance sheet can be overlook due to very amazing/creative asspects 10 out of 10
